Why This Blog

So why have a decided to start this blog?

Well honestly, I see all these other blogs that have helped me put together thing that help Monkey learn. I am hoping that I will be able to in turn help someone else, to help there children succeed. Monkey is my 7 year old step-daughter (I love her like she is my own). She is currently in 2nd grade (the 2014 – 2015 school year), she has struggled this year with school. So I wanted to help make her fall in love with learning, I’m not a teacher, though I have fallen in love with teaching her things. I spend days trying to find and create new ways for her to learn.

Little Saturday School?

The name started because we have Monkey on the weekends, so Saturday throughout the school year we are starting to do an at home school day. When I first started talking to Monkey for some reason we called it, “Little Saturday School” and the name has stuck. It is the best though, she gets so excited Friday night and asks if we are having Little Saturday School, and again at breakfast she double checks.  However I do plan to continue having school days throughout the summer, We get 30 days in the summer straight. I am currently looking at a schedule to do in the summer, I am thinking 3 days on and 3 days off with just having to do her daily 5. The hope is when she goes back for 3rd grade she did not have the summer lag, and maybe even be ahead of the game.

What will I post?

I do try and create a full lesson plan for each Saturday, I plan to post these. Many items I get from others, I will try my best to link everything to it’s owner. Though if I am unable to find the original link, I will have to go with out posting a link or download for it, I apologize in advance if this happens. I do understand how important it is though to not have your own work given away without credit. Anything I have created I will try my best to have a download for, please just give respect to linking to me if you wish to share it with others.

After lesson days I plan to post pictures of the lesson. Also discuss what did work, what didn’t, and if I think of anything that would have made it better.

Brain Book?

I may mention Brain Book a lot when talking about lessons in later posts. I hope to do a post that will show you what Monkey’s Brain Book is. I have put together games and other activities for her to do in her free time. When Monkey was first introduced to the brain book, her eyes lit up! She is constantly asking to do work in her Brain Book, it pretty much goes every were with us. It is still in “beta” phase in a way, I plan to add much more to it, and fix it up to be more “attractive.”

Thanks Bunches for joining me on my journey,

– Hannah
